Stage 5: Disability Awareness Session for Years 9 & 10
Stage 5 (Years 9–10)
Stage 5 sessions deepen students’ understanding by exploring identity, social responsibility, and allyship in more complex ways.
Students examine real-world barriers, systemic challenges, and the impact of societal attitudes towards disability.
Through discussion and lived experience storytelling, they are encouraged to think critically about equity, accessibility, and their role in shaping inclusive environments.
This stage supports NSW curriculum outcomes across PDHPE, Commerce, Civics and Citizenship, and General Capabilities such as Critical and Creative Thinking and Ethical Understanding.
After participating in Step Up or Roll On
Students will be able to:
-
Analyse how social attitudes and environments create barriers
-
Differentiate between awareness and active allyship
-
Propose practical strategies to improve accessibility in their school
-
Reflect on their own responsibility in fostering inclusive communities
