Empowering Inclusion

Step Up Or Roll On

Step Up or Roll On is a lived-experience disability awareness program designed for NSW high schools.

Through honest storytelling, discussion, and interactive learning, students gain a deeper understanding of physical, sensory, and non-visible disabilities.

Each session is tailored to year groups and mapped to the NSW curriculum, supporting inclusion, empathy, and respectful relationships.

We empower students to move beyond awareness and become confident, compassionate allies in their school communities.

Step Up. Speak Up. Roll On Together.

Meet the minds behind Step Up or Roll On

Meet Sandra Richardson

I was born with cerebral palsy and became a wheelchair user in my twenties, an experience that deeply shaped both my life and my purpose.

Over many years working in the disability sector, I’ve supported individuals, families, and communities through education, advocacy, and lived-experience facilitation.

I’ve spoken on panels within the disability community, worked as a disability awareness facilitator, and hold an Associate Diploma in Psychological Studies, bringing both professional knowledge and real-world insight to my work.

Through Step Up or Roll On, I’m passionate about empowering young people to build understanding, empathy, and confidence in how they engage with disability.

By sharing honest experiences and encouraging open conversations, I aim to support students to move beyond awareness and become genuine allies — helping shape a more inclusive, respectful future for everyone.

I changed careers to become an Enrolled Nurse after recognising the gaps that often exist in the support for people with disability.

While working at Royal Ryde Rehabilitation Hospital, I supported individuals with newly acquired spinal cord injuries, an experience that deeply shaped my understanding of both the physical and emotional challenges people face during life-changing transitions.

Witnessing resilience alongside systemic barriers strengthened my empathy and confirmed my commitment to creating positive change.

Through both my professional and personal experiences, I’ve seen how disability is not just a personal experience but a societal issue — one that requires understanding, accessibility, and collective responsibility.

As a Director of Step Up or Roll On, my goal is to help create meaningful change by supporting education, awareness, and inclusion, and by encouraging communities to recognise the role we all play in building a more inclusive future.
